What are Lie Angles of golf clubs?

The lie angle of a golf club is the angle of the hosel (or the golf shaft) is in relationship to the sole (or the bottom) of the head of the golf club.

Why is this angle important? Well, if we adjust this angle to the individual golfer, they will make better contact with the ball, thusly making them a better golfer.

Below you will see a chart that I put together of Standard Lie Angles... HOWEVER, please be very well aware of the fact that different club manufacturers have different "standards'! This chart does not represent the lie angles of all golf clubs on the market! This is my standard and is the standard for the O'Connor Golf Company.

STANDARD LIE ANGLES
Club Lie Angle
Driver 50 Degrees
3 Wood 56 Degrees
5 Wood 57 Degrees
7 Wood 58 Degrees
3 Iron 58 Degrees
4 Iron 59 Degrees
5 Iron 60 Degrees
6 Iron 61 Degrees
7 Iron 62 Degrees
8 Iron 63 Degrees
9 Iron 64 Degrees
PW Iron 64 Degrees
GW Iron 64 Degrees
SW Iron 64 Degrees
LW Iron 64 Degrees

Adjustments to the lie angle depends upon many different variables of the golfer! Not just one thing! All golfers have different swings, body types, stances, and moment of impacts! These variables and a few more need to be looked at to determine the best golf club lie angle for that particular golfer!

This lie angle CANNOT be found by using a form on a website! It CANNOT also be determined from just the height of a golfer as well! A professional golf club maker or golf club fitter has to look at you hitting balls.. for atleast an hour! And I dont mean just hitting balls in a net on a computer device.. yes, this helps, but it should not be used alone in determining the proper lie angle!

Tour players and serious golfers will have the lie angles on their golf clubs checked many times a year as the lie angle can change over time from regular play as well as from dropping your clubs or for "banging" a club on the ground after a bad shot. Loft Angles should also be checked as well. What are Loft Angles?
