Clean Your Golf Grips!
Yes, you need to clean your golf grips! Cleaning them will make them last longer and keep them feeling like new! If you are a weekend golfer and dont practice alot then you will probably only need to clean your grips once every two months. If you practice once a week and play on the weekends then you should clean your grips once a month. If you are a collegiate player or touring professional you should clean your grips once a week.
If your grips are slick its probably not due from them being worn down, its probably from the natural oils from your hands as well as from dirt and dust particles. If your grips need to be replaced, you will see signs of dry-rot or worn spots (low areas) on the grip from too much grip pressure.
To wash 1 piece rubber grips, put your grips under some warm running water and get them wet, apply some dish soap or whatever you have at the sink, and scrub the hell out of them with a stiff nylon brissle brush like a big tub scrubbing brush - get a big one as it will be easier on your hands and you can use a little more force. You will see the soap starting to turn brown and black as thats all the dirt and grease on your grips. Run them under the water again, pat them dry wth a soft towel and leave them up against a wall and out of your bag to dry over night. Come back in the morning and feel them and they will be like new!
To wash a 2 piece grip - like a softie or winn style - do the same as above but use a very soft nylon brissle tooth brush. Yes, you will have to do a little more work with the tooth brush but you dont want a big brush to start pulling apart the outer layer of the grip.
After a good cleaning of your golf grips, your clubs will feel like new and you will probably even save a few strokes on your next round.
